goTenna Cognitive Digital Radio

by

Michelle D. Alderson

What?

A compact smartphone communicator

Why?

No bars? No problem

$199/Pair Buy

Tower Power

Communication breakdown? When there is no cell tower in sight, the lightweight and waterproof goTenna (sold in pairs) keeps you in touch, even when off-grid (or when fighting for cell-tower power). Two micro-USB cables charge the cognitive digital radio that creates its very own signal, thus allowing you and other goTenna users to communicate when others can’t. Text or call your goTenna buddy within a one- to four-mile range for hours; the goTenna rechargeable lithium-polymer battery lasts more than 24 hours (in standby mode) with just one charge. It also shares your GPS location, if you and your goTenna partner somehow lose sight of each other at a concert, on a mountain, or while traveling. Clip goTenna to your pocket, backpack, purse, or belt loop, and those pesky no-bar days and “No Service” messages will be a distant memory.

The goTenna is sold in pairs of blue and green or purple and orange. A family pack of four is also available.
