Devialet Gold Phantom Wireless Music Player
A wireless music player that delivers deep bass
It sports eight times the power of its award-winning predecessor
Go for the Gold
One look at Devialet’s new Gold Phantom wireless music device and it becomes obvious that it is not just another fancy music box. The spheroid-shaped object ignites the imagination, despite the fact that the exterior indicates little as to its use, aside from the distinct appearance of the word “Devialet” emblazoned on the sides.
The original Phantom, released in 2015, has already garnered a host of celebrity and artist endorsements, and today Devialet announced a new and improved version, named the Devialet Gold Phantom, with a host of upgrades and unique styling. Probably the most striking visual elements aside from its overall appearance are the “high-excursion” bass drivers, which visibly pulsate to the music to create low-frequency sound waves that one would not expect from such a small package. Also, the 22-karat-gold accents, after which the Gold Phantom is named, clearly denote luxury and quality. The manufacturer is calling it “the most extreme and precise audio product ever,” which in a marketspace awash in hyperbole, it is easy to dismiss those phrases as marketing-speak. But one glance at the list of industry awards that Devialet has managed to accumulate in just a few short years in business, and one begins to actually consider these claims in earnest.
The new Gold Phantom is certainly boasting impressive specifications, including 4,500 watts of power, equivalent to eight of the original Phantom models. After 10 years of research and development and $30 million invested, the resulting product is a refined piece of audio machinery capable of bass that has been startling reviewers since its inception. Packing eight times the power into the new and improved model can only enhance the sonic footprint of this device, as it can accept the highest-fidelity audio formats wirelessly from a mobile phone or music server. The design also incorporates a variety of proprietary technologies from the French brand, which has accumulated 88 patents since opening shop. The Devialet Gold Phantom will begin shipping on July 14, 2016, and is available for pre-order now.
